PCM and PLM Microscope Service for Asbestos and IH Labs
Preventive maintenance and alignment for PCM fiber counting and PLM bulk analysis microscopes, with records ready for your assessor.
A fiber count is only as good as the microscope behind it. If the graticule drifts out of calibration, the test slide check slips, or a PLM stage won't hold center, results get harder to defend. Sky Optical Services keeps PCM and PLM microscopes set to the method and gives you the documentation to show it.
What we cover
How we work in your lab
We stay out of sample prep areas, never use canned air near samples, clean outside surfaces with damp wipes, and follow your PPE rules.
Where we work
We serve environmental, asbestos, mold, and industrial hygiene labs across Greater Houston, including Houston, the Texas Medical Center, Sugar Land, Katy, Cypress, The Woodlands, Pearland, Pasadena, Clear Lake, and Baytown.
Common questions
Do you calibrate the Walton-Beckett graticule?
Yes. We measure the counting circle against a stage micrometer and record the result. It should measure 100 micrometers, within 2 micrometers, at the specimen.
Do you check the HSE/NPL test slide?
Yes. We check the detection limit with the lab's HSE/NPL phase test slide after alignment and record the last block seen.
Do you align PLM microscopes for asbestos analysis?
Yes, including stage and objective centering, polarizer and analyzer orientation, a strain check, the first-order red compensator, and dispersion staining stop centering.
Will you work around our sample prep areas?
Yes. We stay out of prep hoods and bulk sample areas, do not use canned air near samples, and follow your PPE rules.
Send your equipment list (make, model, and quantity) for a quote, or tell us what a specific microscope is doing and we'll schedule an evaluation.
